The phone is 540-283-3145. The jail docket line is 540-283-3162. The Sheriff's Office runs the Roanoke County/Salem Jail in partnership with the City of Salem. Most short-term Roanoke County released inmates were once held here. Note that this is the rural and suburban Roanoke County, not Roanoke City. The Sheriff's records desk takes walk-in requests, mail requests, and FOIA letters for jail logs and arrest reports.

To deposit funds online, you can use the Jail ATM website. Inmates are not allowed to receive incoming calls. They can only make outgoing collect calls. The Criminal Division of the Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court creates and maintains records on all criminal cases heard in Roanoke County Circuit Court. The Clerk handles felonies, revocations, and certified misdemeanor offenses. The state-run case lookup is the best place to start when you only have a name. Use the Virginia Circuit Court case information system and pick Roanoke County from the list, not Roanoke City.
